Search Now! - skip the how-to and go directly to the databases (you will still need your library card).
Or read more...Curious about our new databasing-searching service? Want to learn more? Here are some general questions about this time-saving service that will get you the results you want with just one click.
What is OneSearch?
OneSearch is a new service that allows you to search across all of our databases at one time. Just specify your search term, add any additional limiters such as publication, select a category, and go. Your term will be searched across each of the databases in the category that you selected.
What if I just want to go directly to one database?
Just click on your database on the list at the bottom of the page. You can always just go directly to the database if that's what you prefer.
What are these categories?
We loosely grouped the databases into main categories that people can use to search. When you select a category you will see the corresponding databases in that category checked at the bottom of the page. You can uncheck and check different databases to add to your search, customizing it to your needs.
Do I need my library card number to use this?
If you are outside of the library, you will be asked for your library card number after you submit a search. Once you enter your number, you will not need to enter it again while your browser is open during that session. If you are inside the library, you will not need to enter any number.
What order are these results returned?
Results are displayed in the order that the databases return them - the fastest are first, etc.
Browsers
OneSearch performs best when you use it with Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher.
Non-searchable Databases
A few databases are not searchable and need to browsed by clicking on the link and going straight to their interface. These include Auto Repair Reference Center and LearningExpress Library.
How do I search for an exact phrase?
Different databases have various search mechanisms, but generally if you put your phrase in quotation marks (e.g. "once in a blue moon") the database will recognize it as a whole phrase.
There are too many results! I'm overwhelmed!
If you are getting too many results, try narrowing your search. You can use boolean operators such as "and," "or," and "not" to combine and exclude terms. Try different things and see what works for you. Or put together a few favored databases in your customized search combination. You can start with one of our categories and then uncheck databases you wish to exclude and add others by checking the box next to them.
